Yesterday I posted a pic on my Instagram (follow me @thisiseverythingblog) of me wearing a new shirt that I picked up in M&S earlier this week for a pretty affordable price tag of £29.50 – it’s the Linen Rich Contrasting Striped Shirt in Blue & White from their Per Una range, which you can find here and it looks like this:
And here’s me wearing it, just thrown on (although there was much faffing about to tuck it in j-uuu-st right, anyone else guilty of that?!) with TopShop jeans and Nike trainers, for a day of “mum duty”:Before you ask, sadly the gorgeous Gucci bag isn’t mine, merely borrowed from a friend for the purposes of this photo but doesn’t the red look great against the blue and white? Perfect nautical summer colour combo right there. I’m excited about the versatility of this shirt and have been doing a bit of Pinterest-ing on it so wanted to share with you some of my favourite ways to wear it. I wanted to show that this can be so much more than a wear-with-jeans-mum-uniform item (although of course also works brilliantly for that!). Note, the shirts shown in the pictures I’ve taken from Pinterest are not the same as the M&S one, but I’ve tried to go for something v similar so you can still achieve the look.
#1) Worn with White JeansSo chic and so perfect for summer, Sincerely Jules.
#2) Worn as a Beach EssentialGorgeous worn with shorts or as a cover up with your swimwear for a great beach look.
#3) Paired with a Pencil SkirtHow about this for a sophisticated yet casual way to wear your favourite shirt to the office? Love this.
#4) Don’t be afraid to clash prints/patternsAbsolutely LOVE this look from blogger Style Pantry, so so cool. I’ve long been on the search for the right voluminous midi and this one (sadly sold out) is absolutely stunning. Perhaps this Oasis Tropical Midi Skirt available from House of Fraser (£55) could work as a good alternative.
#5) Worn with MetallicsAbsolutely LOVE this look, snapped outside New York Fashion week last September. As you can see, she’s wearing a simple pale blue denim shirt but I think you could still work the same outfit replacing that with the striped blue and white shirt.
#6) Worn with that other wardrobe stable, black trousersOff duty perfection from Irina Lakicevic.
#7) Worn with a bold block colour like greenSuch a cool outfit for mooching about in the city, put together by Man Repeller founder Leandra Medine and don’t even get me started on the shoes… WANT!
#8) Worn with RedThere is something about red, white and blue paired together that just works – hence me seizing the opportunity to temporarily ‘steal’ my friend’s red handbag to pose with when I was wearing my new striped shirt yesterday. Wear your blue and white stripes with a red skirt, tucked into red trousers or culottes, or simply accessorised with a red bag for a gorgeous classic look.
#9) Layered under a knitProving that a blue and white striped shirt can be for life and not just for summer, here’s some style inspo for how to layer with a cosy knit for those autumn and winter days as well as those summer days we’ve been experiencing lately where the sun doesn’t actually seem to shine. Sigh.
#10) With a Statement NecklaceFlamingoes might not be your thing, but doesn’t a statement necklace worn with a blue and white striped shirt just look amazing? What a way to bling up an everyday outfit. Go for something bold in colour or sparkle factor, Stella & Dot has lots of gorgeous statement necklaces as does Anthropologie.
Hope this has given you some great inspiration, do let me know how do you like to wear yours?
