The stars were out in force at the 70th annual BAFTAs, with famous faces from the silver screen mingling with our very own HRHs, Wills and Kate. In a former life, I’ve actually worked that red carpet on BAFTA night, shepherding celebs on arrival up through the media and into the ‘do’ itself – it really is as amazing a buzz in real life as it appears on TV. If a little manic. However, the less said about an experience I had looking after Stephen Hawking the better, but for those who know the story, I’ll allow you a little chuckle at the memory. Shudder. Anyway, one of my favourite things about BAFTA night is seeing all the amazing fashion that comes parading down the red carpet. BAFTAs 2017 – here are my three favourites:Let me begin with the gorgeous Emma Stone. Ever since I saw her in the movie The Help, I have just loved her and I’m dying to go see La, La, Land, I’m sure she’s amazing. Wearing Chanel Couture, I think this embellished dress is just a dream and I love how she’s made the whole look that bit more edgy by wearing matching trousers underneath. Neat. Not only that, fairly practical too when you consider it was about 3 degrees in London this evening. Bravo Emma. And she won the BAFTA too – double Bravo!
Hard to find something that comes close to Chanel Couture of course, but if you are a fan of the embellished look then I encourage you to have a browse of the new season ready-to-wear collection by Needle & Thread: seriously swoon worthy. If you have a particular party or wedding on the horizon and are willing to invest a little, they have some AMAZING pieces. This Dragonfly Maxi Dress in Slate Blue really is everything.Next up The Duchess of Cambridge, looking glorious in Alexander McQueen. Doesn’t she look fabulous and so radiant (although possibly in need of a sandwich?) and the dress… ooooh the dress…. good choice Kate. GREAT choice. Love it.
If you love the look of this off-the-shoulder maxi number then pop on over to US website Flynn Skye (they do ship internationally FYI). Particularly love this Bardot Maxi in Rose Cluster – dreamy holiday wear for the summer.
Emily Blunt, dressed by McQueen Creative Director Sarah Burton comes in within my top 3 picks for BAFTA night. Isn’t this just gorgeous? Love the striking embroidered bodice, beautiful colours and stunning design, and combined with the ruffled classic black skirt – just perfect. She looks pretty epic. Love that it is such a cool look for the red carpet too – she’s nailed it in this.Hard to find anything that comes close to this, but, if you’re looking for an evening gown that delivers on impact, then definitely consider this Halter Jersey Print Mikado Gown in Black/Multi by American designer Adrianna Papell – it really caught my eye for it’s striking skirt and classic shape. Absolutely got no reason to have it in my wardrobe, but regardless, it’s beautiful. Available exclusively online at John Lewis.
