I have PROMISED myself I am going to get my butt in gear and have a serious wardrobe sort out – Vestiaire and eBay, I’m coming for you! How is it possible that I have a wardrobe and drawers full of stuff, so full in fact I can barely open and shut the doors, and yet almost always nothing to wear?! part of that statement may or may not actually be true (the first part is resoundingly true at least).
There are certainly some things that can move on to a new loving home that’s for sure and in the meantime, make way for THE NEW!!! YASSSSS!! And by new, I’m thinking dresses. Because frankly, who wants to be wearing jeans in January? – I know they are the practical and easy throw-on solution, particularly when it’s bloody cold out there, but nobody wants a constant reminder of all those Quality Street and mince pies do they? They do not, so feck off to the back of the wardrobe please jeans and dresses, step forward, it’s time to do what you do best: make you feel a million dollars and not cut off your circulation with tight waistbands and stiff fabric.
Now, disclaimer, obviously it is still chilly out there, so I’m not suggesting we all get pneumonia in the pursuit of sartorial bliss, so be sure to layer up with tights (plain or a bit jazzy, see patterned and/or glitter variations – both work) and knits (over the dress or under, got to love a polo-neck under a dress for winter-layering perfection). Alternatively, just simply a faux fur coat thrown over the top and you’re good to go.
Naturally I took it upon myself to do a bit of research, so may I present some of the new season “dresses of dreams” that I have my eyes on, simply gorgeous for daytime dressing in this dreary season and many can also be zooshed-up to work for evening. Plus, perfect back-to-work attire if you don’t need to head into the office suited and booted.
Starting with this Y.A.S Floral High Neck Skater Dress from ASOS (£65) – now, okay, it’s 100% polyester, which isn’t ideal, but hear me out… isn’t it just the most gorgeous colour and I just love the floral print, it’s beautiful – I think it’s quite Olivia Rubin-esque, with a much friendlier price tag, I may have “added to basket”, just to see you understand:Perfect worn with bare-legs or tights with ankle or sock boots, wouldn’t this just be the best throw-on and go dress for dinner out with friends? I mean it has an elasticated waistband for goodness sake, what could be better for January?!
Now, how about this thing of beauty?! – again from ASOS, search for Mixed Print Deconstructed Midi Tea Dress with Open Back (catchy), I am in LOVE with this. Asymmetric frills, clashing prints, high neck, long sleeves, I mean basically this is perfection (£42):A shirt dress has got to be one of the most useful wardrobe staples and while I’m not sure personally I’d wear this over skinny jeans as has been styled on the Next website, I love the cut and style of this dress and the pattern is great. Perfect for layering with tights and a polo-necked jumper and/or biker jacket in winter, but also works into Spring/Summer with bare legs. You could even wear it as a beach dress, with just a few buttons done up, on holiday! Print Shirt Dress, Next, £45 – buy here
Sticking with Next, this one REALLY caught my eye, just such a gorgeous eye-popping colourful pattern and another one that would happily see you through from winter to spring and the cooler days of summer: holiday evening dress anyone? Wear with trainers, heels, boots – it’s going to work with EVERYTHING! Bright Print Midi Dress, Next, £55:
Okay, so this is not new season, but it is in the sale and it’s perfect for this time of year thanks to the fact it’s (a) black and (b) floral, oh and did I mention it’s another midi – so basically ticking every box right there: Studio by Preen black floral midi dress, reduced to £34.50 (from £69) – buy here:
A quick look now at MANGO and this is definitely floating my boat – Bow Floral Dress (£49.99), which is new now:
And finally, because it’s hard to resist a little look – Anthropologie (I know, I know, sorry, but it’s all just too gorgeous to ignore!) and aren’t these just the business?!
Austin Floral Crepe Maxi Dress, £168 – buy here. I mean just look at those balloon sleeves, dreamy. This would also be a perfect dress for a wedding, so if you have one coming up – buy now, wear for winter and rock it again at a Spring wedding, feel smug. Also comes in a dark purple colour which is particularly fabulous, but more wintery looking that the turquoise. Also loving this, perfect with trainers for daytime dashing about and just love the sporty-style ribbed neckline and cuffs – January Floral Track Tunic (£98):
Lots of temptation, but but but I’m thinking pretty much any and all of these would be great buys not just for now but for the rest of the year, so you know – cost per wear and all that – easy to justify! Sort of.
Happy Shopping!
Bianca xoxo
