Ever since I was given a pair of Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse low-top sneakers for my birthday, I’ve had a bit of a schoolgirl crush on eye-popping cartoon-y fashion. These off-white canvas trainers with their red heart logo complete with peeping eyes, have added interest to my standard uniform of jeans and a top and I love that they inject a bit of fun into any outfit. They are also the perfect dress down to a smart-ish jumpsuit. I love them.
Since having had these peeper-sneakers on my feet, I’ve been eye-balling a few similarly eye-inspired pieces. These are some of those on my wish-list…*starts to hum – “I always feel like, somebody’s watching me…”*:
Anya Hindmarch Eyes Imperial Clutch (£447 – currently reduced from £895)
An investment piece for sure (but currently at 50% off!), I’m totally besotted with this Anya Hindmarch clutch. Embossed black capra leather with suede lining and gold-tone hardware frame, I just LOVE how the classic black clutch bag is given a fun and contemporary twist with the embossed eyes graphic. Guaranteed to add an element of chic fun to any outfit and talk about a great talking point. Thanks to its Florentine craftsmanship credentials, this wearable art works just as well for a black-tie do as it does with skinnies and your favourite black top for drinks with the girls. Just look at how gorgeous the inside is and the boxy shape – it’s making my eyes flutter!
Zoe Karssen Eyes Embroidered Sweatshirt (£128) Love this fun sweatshirt with cartoon-eyes motif from Amsterdam-based fashion house Zoe Karssen. Perfect to throw on with jeans, it’s anything but boring. Pop culture cuteness nailed.
Fendi Google Eyes T-Shirt (£220)When Italian fashion house Fendi features googly-eyes in its latest collection, you just know that this is a trend worth taking seriously. This black cotton t-shirt with distinctive red and white googly eyes motif is classic stye with a contemporary twist to a T. Or rather, to a Tee. A great every-day piece, I’d also like to try it tucked into a voluptuous midi-skirt worn with heels for a dressed-down evening look. Wink-wink.
Sophie Hulme ‘Stanley & Flo’ Coin Purse (£78, reduced from £195)
Argh the cuteness, it’s making my teeth hurt a little. This playful leather heart pouch with ‘on the look out’ googly eyes is fantastic for looking after your plastic. Oh, and your coins and notes too. Plus with the gold-tone lobster clasp fastening, you can attach it to your bag-du-jour to add a playful finish. Sweet. For more Sophie Hulme googly-eye gorgeousness, see this bag charm in her trademark gold-plated gilding (£30).
Yolke Wink-Motif Stretch Silk Pyjama Set (£260) Not so easy to see on this pic, but check out the wink motif on the collar of these stretch-silk pyjamas in sky blue from English luxury sleep and loungewear brand Yolke. Too. Darling. Almost 100% silk and definitely 100% to die for. When it’s time for some shut-eye, these relaxed but elegant PJs are the dream. Those clever ladies at Yolke also suggest wearing the shirt as a separate for day, with the embroidered collar peeping out under a round neck jumper. Stylishly done. Just maybe not after you’ve slept in it all night that is!
