The season of goodwill is all but upon us. Whether you’re shopping for gifts for others or yourself (come on, we all do it, “one for Aunty Joan, one for me”) and you’re in the market for a festive knit, currently de riguer, then here’s my round-up of some of the best and seriously worthwhile Christmas jumpers that “do good”. Disclaimer: there’s not a flashing Rudolph nose in sight!
Selfish Mother x Save The Children – Black & Silver Sparkle Christmas Jumper (£45)
It’s Save the Children’s annual Christmas Jumper Day on the 16th December and they have really hit the mark this year with a series of design collaborations to fundraise: from 29 October to 31 December, 50% of the price of each jumper sold will be donated to the charity to help transform children’s lives in some of the world’s toughest countries. This stylish Karen Elson designed SPARKLE boyfriend-style sweatshirt from Selfish Mother, created by fab illustrator Cheryl Rawlings, is Fair Wear certified and made with organic cotton and is the perfect way to do Christmas-kitsch in style. Sling it on with a pair of jeans for a festive day-look or dress up with a silver pleated skirt and heels for an evening drinks look that is smart-casual nailed.
Selfish Mother x Save The Children – ‘Off Duty Elf’ Sweatshirt (£45)
Also in the collection is this fab ‘Off Duty Elf’ sweatshirt designed in collaboration with supermodel Erin O’Connor. Love the gold against the black and once again the fab font/design by Rawlings. Great worn with skinny black jeans – these coated ones by DL1961 would be perfect – and heels, these black pointy toe court shoes with gold heel would be a neat way to subtly carry the gold and black theme through from top to toe and at £39 from ASOS they’re a bit of bargain for festive fun.
Selfish Mother x Save The Children – ‘Secret Santa’ Christmas Jumper (£45)
If like me you’re more than a little obsessed with the colour grey, particularly when worn with white, then this Laura Bailey number for Save the Children is the Christmas jumper dream. Again, as with all in the collection, 50% of the price of each jumper sold will be donated to the charity and this sweatshirt manages to tick the boxes of festive and fashionable with aplomb. My only question is how long past the 25th December could I get away with wearing it as I’m not sure I’ll want to pack it away with the decs come 6th Jan.
The DRM Project – Burgundy Boyfriend ‘Believe’ Sweatshirt (£30)
Not one of the Save the Children collection but here’s another great charity jumper that’s perfect for this time of year. Particularly love the colours of the gold writing on the burgundy with this sweatshirt and get this – 100% of the profits from the sale of these goes to the Dream Centre fund, helping to build a state of the art centre for children with complex medical conditions.
The Bonniemob X Selfish Mother – MOTHER Charity Cashmere Sweater Black (£110)
Not a festive number but a great one to consider as a Christmas gift. I have a MOTHER sweatshirt in burnt orange that I absolutely love wearing because it is SO warm and slouchy and comfy, but this limited edition version is a game-changer because it is CASHMERE – YES! Online retailer The Bonniemob have joined forces with Selfish Mother to create this thing of luxuriously soft beauty and £20 from each sweater will go to the charity Refugee Support Europe – with a huge emphasis on helping pregnant women who have to give birth in refugee camps to have some quality, clean and safe bonding time wth their new born babies. There are also matching cotton/cashmere LOVE baby playsuits if you’re looking for a great Christmas gift for Mother and baby.
