I’ve decided that there is a pink velvet jacket-shaped hole in my wardrobe. I’ve never really been a massive velvet fan, but this season, with it coming at me via every fashion e-newsletter I’m subscribed to or magazine I flick through, there it is, screaming at me: VELVET. VELVET. VELVET. You could say, it’s back! And as I’ve been pondering should I / shouldn’t I get on board with the whole velvet thing, my subconscious has surreptitiously been beavering way at building a case not only for velvet, but specifically for PINK VELVET… and now I can’t get it out of my mind. So, I’ve been doing a little research, to try to land upon the perfect one, here’s what I’ve unearthed – now, I should just point out, I haven’t yet tried any of these on, but once I do then I shall be sure to provide an update on my final selection.
Pink Crushed Velvet Blazer – Misguided, £40Ignoring if you will the slightly worrying trousers, which I am absolutely NOT advocating, I think this jacket has a lot going for it – can’t quite believe I’m actually crushing over crushed velvet, but hey, there’s a first time for everything right and I think this jacket would be the perfect festive season night out throw-on. Buy here.
Velvet Jacket in Pink – Next, £58Well hello there, pink velvet jacket of dreams – how about this little beauty from Next? throw-on style with crinkled velvet (feels so wrong to even type that let alone wear it, but I am in LOVE!) and rolled up sleeve design. Buy here.
Sophie Velvet Kimono – Anthropologie, £88I don’t think this is really the style I’m after, but this kimono-style blush beauty is very very pretty and works well for a daytime throw on to add a bit of glamour to a plain tee and jeans or trousers. Buy here.
Relaxed Silk Velvet Blazer – Pure Collection, £199Upping the budget a little now, so more of an investment piece, but isn’t this one just stunning. Gorgeous cut and the fabric looks divine, plus the soft rose colour is just the stuff of dreams. Imagine slipping this onto your shoulders, you’d feel like a million-bucks. Dreamy. Buy Here.
Velvet Emilia Blazer Rose Blossom – Boden, £130Pretty in pink for a daytime colour pop with jeans and heels, this is on the money. Buy here.
Charlotte Oversized Velvet Belted Kimono in Blush – Boohoo, £20Now, with this one, there might be a school-of-thought that feels this is a bit too borderline dressing gown, but bear with me here. Imagine NOT wearing this over the top of something that essentially looks like a bra and a facial expression that says yes, I am indeed, up for something… Imagine instead, a smart pair of jeans and a simple silk camisole top. Heels yes, for much needed height that would be essential given the length of this one. I think it could work. Plus it’s pretty good value if you fancy something a bit more statement without making a huge investment. I can only imagine what the husband would say, but then again, I rarely make my fashion choices based on what he thinks is appropriate going out in public wear (much to his disappointment I’m sure!).
And during my travels of research, I came across this stunning image, if you were to go the whole hog and embrace both the pink velvet jacket AND trousers combo. Isn’t this just A-M-A-ZING?! True pink velvet inspo, swoon:Sadly it’s from some boutique in Greece (Ailin Boutique in Melíssia, Greece), so no idea how to get your hands on it but I couldn’t not share the image as it’s just beautiful. I think for me though, the Next jacket might well be the front-runner, think I may have to purchase and have a little try of that one. Do let me know if you spot any others on the high-street.
