Spotted at the home of my stylish sister and brother-in-law, this thing of beauty, lighting up the dining table in simply beautiful and elegant fashion: a John Pawson candle holder in bronzed and pyrex glass. Swoon. Based on a traditional storm lantern design, the candle holder is designed by British architect John Pawson and is part of the When Objects Work collection – a Belgian manufacturer that works on the belief that all the items in your household can be functional and aesthetically beautiful. Well, this certainly is. Talking of candles, as we indeed are, did you know that un-tapered ivory church candles made with a high proportion of beeswax are the candles to go for in particular and that a 23cm candle will outlast the most expansive dinner party – so you eat, drink and be merry long into the night before the light will die out on you. Good to know.
