One of the hottest hues for Autumn/Winter 2016, Aubergine was everywhere on the catwalk for this season, with this deep purple hue being heralded as the new black. Ever since last year, when Pantone revealed the aubergine-esque shade ‘Marsala’ as its shade of the year, this subtly confident yet rich and indulgent colour been on-trend across our wardrobes, make-up choices and our homes. If you’re looking to achieve cosy and stylish, accents of aubergine could be just the thing. Here are my top picks.
Farrow & Ball – Brinjal (No.222) – This beautiful rich tone from posh paint brand Farrow & Ball does aubergine at its deepest and most luxurious. Taking its name from the shiny skin of the aubergine itself, it is THE colour to go for if you’re looking to create a sophisticated and glamorous space. So, think hallways with impact or bathrooms to luxuriate in, perfect for evoking warmth and high gloss. Compliment with framed silver or gold photos mounted on your walls in a gallery style to add interest to any entrance way.
Ptolemy Mann Ikat Empire Shade Aubergine & Lime – On the subject of hallways, wouldn’t this striking lamp from Heals be a gorgeous way to light up yours? Ptolemy Mann’s exclusive series of shades for Copper & Silk give a distinct flair to lamps and the gathered pleats add traditional texture to the bright tie dye pattern. Love the contrast of the aubergine and lime colours too, which gives great inspo of other colours to accent against this rich purple hue.
Sofa.com Snowdrop Sofa in Fig Pure Belgian Linen – how about this delicious classic shaped sofa from sofa.com in fig pure linen? We have the same sofa but in a different colour shade, bought many years ago, and despite children and yoghurt and a hair-shedding cat, it is still going strong so I can definitely vouch for the quality. Just love this stunningly rich and cosy colour, which would be beautifully accented with soft pink/rose cushions. For a bolder look and more striking contrast, why not scatter these distinct John Lewis Fusian Ikat Cushions in Saffron. This beautiful Zig Zag Alpaca Throw in Camel would also be a cosy addition, £295 from Jonathan Adler (25% off if you add the code MERRYMAKER at purchase online right now). It’s super soft made from baby alpaca and just perfect for snuggling under on cold winter nights.
Molton Brown – If you’re nervous to go the whole hog in bringing in those purply aubergine tones into your home but like the idea of easily adding the odd accent, there’s nothing simpler (or nicer!) than indulging in some luxury for your bathroom so head to Molton Brown. This Ylang-Ylang Bath & Shower Gel will not only look smart on the side of your bath but is the perfect way to enjoy some R&R during this hectic season of festive partying. And if you love the scent, then you can also carry it through other areas of your home with this Ylang-Ylang single wick scented candle.
