I was lucky enough to spend a few days at Babington House over the Christmas break. SO much interiors inspo there it’s enough to make me need to have a lie down. Thankfully there are plenty of places to lounge there, phew. One little corner I wanted to share with you was from our beautiful room and it’s this: the vintage drinks trolley bar cart.
Isn’t it just perfect? Curvaceously oval, trimmed with a brass frame and steady on reeded legs, neatly stocked up with all the provisions you need to fix yourself a quick drink before supper. Chin-chin.
IF I had the space and IF I didn’t have two energetic children rampaging around my home, I would LOVE to have something similar on-hand and ready-to-go for whenever the occasion demanded it. It feels so appropriately decadent. Although it could well lead to a dangerous daily G&T habit before you know it, just because, well if it’s out and on display, perhaps the temptation would be too much to resist! A risk I might be willing to take.
For those of you who do have a corner of your home you could devote to this little slice of charming ‘what the Butler saw’ interior design and who don’t have kids that are likely to send the Waterford Crystal shattering to the ground, I’ve found a few similar that you might like to swoon over. I’m off to have a lie down…
Graham & Green’s Round Drinks Trolley with marble shelves (£315) has a more contemporary feel but is every bit as chic. Perfect for the cocktail hour! This striking Art Deco style brass and marble drinks trolley from Mia Fleur (£345) is absolutely stunning. What a way to unwind after a hard day’s work, sitting by that and fixing yourself a whisky on the rocks. So neat. Graham & Green also stock something similar (at £350) but with glass shelves instead of marble, equally stunning.
For the ultimate in authentic, you simply must visit online antiques and interiors website The Vintage Trader (although you’ll not thank me for directing you there as there are too many things you’ll undoubtedly fall in love with, I know I have). How about this genuine, restored Oval French Brass drinks trolley (£650) which comes complete with four removable bottle tiers on the lower level? intricate ornamental design in the brass makes this utterly charming and I’m a sucker for anything French and antique, so this one really captures my heart.
For a Gatsby-inspired look, head to Rockett St. George and see their Marble & Brass Effect Drinks Trolley (£249). Perfect for showcasing your favourite tipple, it’s timeless appeal means it would work well in both a vintage and/or contemporary home. Bottoms up!
