I can be a fair-weather jewellery wearer, but one thing I’ve always had a fondness for is the statement earring. For me there is just something so effortlessly cool about a paired-down, casual outfit, that’s instantly upgraded with a fabulous chandelier of an earring worn with confidence. What’s not to love?
I recently discovered – thanks to the power of Instagram – this fantastic independent brand called Alice’s Wonders, oh my word what GORGEOUS earrings and so unbelievably good value! I have snapped up a pair of the Black Cord Tassel Earrings (all are lead and nickel free), which cost a mere 6 of your British pounds…. yes, you read that right, £6…!!!!! I mean seriously, that’s insane, but I for one am happy to go with it. They arrived today and here I am laughing about nothing (maybe the fact that I snapped these up for a mere £6?!) and posing in the back-garden while trying not to attract the attention of the builders working on the house next door, who probably already think I’m a weirdo with all the selfie-stick action they witness:
Buy here. I am also in love with these in the the New Coral, Red, and Burnt Orange colour-ways (all currently out of stock but you can put yourself on the waiting list). So pretty and so versatile, they work for both daytime and evening in my view. If you’re new to wearing a statement earring and worry that they feel “too much” in the daytime, just throw on a simple dress or shorts and tee, brave the earrings, and go out into the world, see what happens. What will actually happen is nothing… nobody will point and laugh, nobody will say “oh, you seem to have some small animal attached to your ear-lobe let me get that for you…”. No, people will say “wow I love your earrings” and you’ll feel fabulous, trust me, this I know to be true. Do it. Now moving to the high-street where there are some great options out there right now. Here are a few I’ve spotted and given the thumbs up to:
M&S Resin Hoop Earrings, £7.50I never ever look at the jewellery in M&S. Never. Ever. But I thought I’d have a cursory glance and look at these pretties I’ve unearthed… love these, so understatedly-striking, perfect for everyday as well as holiday. I love the slight 70s vibe of the sort of tortoiseshell resin design, plus the hoop size isn’t too big, so if you’re new to wearing a statement earring then these would be a good starting point. These would be perfect worn with my Donna Ida denim culottes and a simple t-shirt for a relaxed weekend look.
Zara Multi-Coloured Pom Pom Earrings, £9.99I just love the fiery orange-red of the tassels on these earrings from Zara, so striking and perfect for summer – especially hot summer nights. Love long earrings like this worn with bare shoulders, as styled here. So chic.
& Other Stories Starlet Hoop Earrings in Gold, £12Pretty and simple, with one of my favourites – a star motif, these semi-hoops from & Other Stories are a very affordable take on a classic design. Although less statement-y than others I’ve picked out, these are perfect if a big bold earring feels like a step too far for you but you want to branch out beyond a stud.
Anthropologie… various
Okay, if you want to seriously avoid temptation then definitely look away now… Anthropologie has a whole statement earring collection – browse/shop here – and oh boy oh boy, there are just too many beauts for me to settle on just one pair. After MUCH deliberation, here are the ones that make me feel more than a little bit YES!!
Serenite Tassel Earrings in yellow (other colours available), £48 – buy here.
Hierarchy Drop Earrings, £48 – buy here.
Josephina Tassel Hoop Earrings, £34 – buy here.
Okay, moving away from Anthopologie (and let’s face it, I could spend a day there given half the chance) and on to Mango. How about these beauties?
Tassels Pendant Earrings in Peach, £12.99 – buy here. I’m also a fan of these – Tassels Pendant Earrings in Black & Gold from Mango, £12.99, buy here.
That’s my round-up for now, but I’m always on the look-out for great earrings so if you’ve spotted some then be sure to let me know. In the meantime, throw a pair of these on and make a statement!
Bianca xoxo
