The leather pencil skirt, frankly I can’t quite believe it has taken me this long to get one in my wardrobe! But get one I have, finally – a Christmas present (a guided Christmas present!) from the in-laws and honest to Betsy, I’m not entirely sure how I’ve functioned thus far in life without having one at my disposal. I mean it’s possible they may just be one of THE most versatile wardrobe staples known to womankind. How so you say? Well, style them with trainers and a tee, with a sloppy jumper and boots, with heels and a blouse, I mean it just. All. Works. From weekend casual to work-uniform with edge, the leather pencil skirt is THE investment piece for your wardrobe that is worth every penny.
So, lots out there to choose from, mine is actually the Whistles Kel Leather Pencil Skirt, which is still in stock and is 100% leather, with a waist to hem length of 65 cms. Now, a word on sizing. I am usually a size 10-12 depending on the brand, this I have in a size 12 and when I first tried it on, it was TIGHT. I’m talking, can I even sit down TIGHT?! BUT, I went into the store and discussed sizing and they reassured me that it would indeed stretch and it would be a mistake to buy one that fits perfectly now because after a few wears it would stretch and be too big. And I’m pleased to report, they were right. So, buy your actual size, even possibly size down, because they do stretch and they do become quite roomy, so bear in mind.
For a less expensive alternative, see the ASOS Midi Pencil Skirt in leather (£85):
So, ways to wear… as I mentioned, this skirt is so versatile it can be worn so many different ways. I have tried… with a slogan tee – the Oui Graphic tee from Anthropologie:Also, with a sweatshirt (slogan again, natch!) – this one is from Zoe Karssen:And of course, Pinterest is a marvellous source of inspiration when it comes to further styling ideas for this new found favourite of mine. Allow me to share some of my favourites – swoon….
Now if that doesn’t get you lusting after a leather pencil skirt, I don’t know what will!
