I’ve been a fan of Kiehl’s skincare for a little while now, having used their Super Multi-Corrective Cream (with SPF30) as my daily moisturiser. I’ve veered off here and there when I’ve run out of a pot, tried different things, but it’s a product I always come back to. It just totally suits my skin and it’s now a firm favourite and a staple. This week I was invited into the Kiehl’s Richmond store to enjoy a little pampering ahead of Mother’s Day (this Sunday – check out my last minute gift guide if you’ve yet to shop for a present!) – as soon as I got in the chair, they tested my skin to see if it was dehydrated or not. It was. Not desperately so, but dehydrated none-the-less and quite far off the measurement for properly hydrated… *puts down the coffee, picks up the water*.
I know I’m definitely someone who has the good fortune of parents and grandparents with great skin, but I think I’m relying too much on genetics to carry me through and am doing very little proactively to properly take care of my skin. So I was interested to know what I could do to improve the overall look and feel and health of my skin – apart from of course the drink more water, less booze and caffeine, get more sleep advice (which of course I don’t take nearly enough heed of!).
Here’s what was recommended for me and my slightly dehydrated skin, I thought I’d share, so here goes…
Ultra Facial Cleanser: RRP £16.50 for a 150ml tube. Start the daily skin care regimen with us to gently cleanse your skin without over-drying. It also removes make-up. You can use this cleanser morning and at night, so I’m going to really try and get into the habit of using it as the moment I’m basically just washing my face with water in the shower and that’s it. Not great from a drying out your already dry skin perspective. If you can swing by your local Kiehl’s store/concession you could ask for a trial size of this product if they have it, I picked up a 30ml tube when I bought some other items and that should keep me going for a bit. Worth it if you want to give it a try before you buy.
Ultra Facial Toner: RRP £17.00 for 250ml bottle. Toner, toner, toner – never used it in my life, like never, ever. Apparently this is an error. Apparently, it I’m not using toner then I’m not undertaking the ideal preparatory step to gear up for the moisturiser that I then slather all over my face. That’s me told then. So, this Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner, which I have now purchased (natch), is mild but effective for all skin types and will gently remove surface debris and remaining residue (after cleansing) while hydrating and comforting skin. Sweep on/off with cotton wool and use morning and at ni
Iris Extract Activating Essence Treatment – RRP £38.00 for a 200ml bottle. So this isn’t cheap (I was fortunate to be given a 40ml sample to take away with me, thank you Kiehl’s!) BUT not only does it smell amazing, more importantly Kiehl’s is so confident in the power of this product that it offers you your money back if you don’t see healthier, revitalised skin in 28 days (Ts & Cs apply). A few drops onto your hands, rub your hands together, then pat on morning and evening after cleansing and toning your face, it apparently should be your first step in a daily “anti-aging” treatment to help you maintain a youthful skin texture. Sign me and my 41 year old face up for that!
Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Concentrate – RRP £41 for a 50ml bottle. Now this one, I bought – kindly using a gift voucher I’d been given by lovely friends – as it was the one that most made me prick up my ears. It promises to “plump skin, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and texture while significantly reducing the look of dull, tired-looking skin that can be caused by age-related dehydration’. Yes to all of that. This is to be applied after all the above, just in the mornings.Daily Reviving Concentrate – RRP £38 for 30ml bottle. I didn’t buy this on the day, but let me tell you a little about it: it’s a lightweight facial oil that promises to keep skin looking radiant all day. It certainly felt amazing when I had it on my skin, but I couldn’t justify buying it on the day – also at this point I’m conscious that a skincare regime with this many steps is probably unlikely for me on an average (school-run) morning, so I figured for now I’d do without it… but if anyone’s wondering what to buy me for a Mother’s Day present… 🙂 So the Revive Concentrate is to be used in the mornings, but in the evenings, you can switch to the Midnight Recovery Concentrate – after cleansing, toning and apply the Iris Extract – to help your skin repair overnight. You can buy the two as a bundle from Kiehl’s for £76.Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector – RRP £29.50 for a 15ml tube. Again, not one I bought on the day, but one I’d love to have, this nifty little product is an under-eye treatment that brightens under-eye circles and corrects with sheer coverage. Also contains SPF 30. I’m noticing more and more that dark circles are becoming a regular face feature, so this would be a great product for concealing but also treating.Super Multi-Corrective Cream Non SPF or SPF 30 – RRP £49.50 for a 50ml jar. This is the daily moisturiser I already use, as mentioned, and a 50ml jar usually lasts me a good few months so while it’s not cheap, it does go quite a long way. It’s a multi-targeted anti-aging moisturiser that “lifts, smooths, sculpts, moisturises and texturises skin”. Personally, I love it and I’ve been using it for about 2 years now. Use in the mornings BUT apparently not at night, where I was advised actually not to put on moisturiser but instead to cleanse, tone, apply Iris Extract, Vitamin C Serum, Midnight Recovery Concentrate and then Midnight Recovery Eye Cream. And finally…. if you can… twice a week exfoliate your face AND twice a week apply a face mask (the Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque they used on me was AMAZING!). I think in truth I might be too lazy and busy (mostly busy obviously) to get around to doing that on a weekly basis, but I’ll at least bear it in mind. Here’s to healthy skin! Off to drink a glass of water…!
